Western Cape Attractions
Tourist attractions in the Western Cape
There are plenty of other wonderful Western Cape tourist attractions to visit that are slightly further afield but well worth the trip.
If you do not want to drive yourself, let us know and we will be pleased to recommend you to one of the reliable local tour specialists we work with who can arrange private chauffeured and guided trips for a full day or longer. Further details are available under our listings of additional services provided.
Here are a few of the attractions we recommend further afield from Cape Town in the Western Cape -
Winelands
Take a guided tour or drive less than an hour from Camps Bay to some of the incredibly picturesque wine estates in the pretty valleys and mountains around the old wine towns of Stellenbosch, Franschhoek and Paarl to taste the world-famous South African wines from this beautiful area. Or explore some of the other equally exciting wine areas around Robertson, Hermanus or even closer to Cape Town in Constantia and Durbanville (both only about 30 minutes drive from Camps Bay).
There are many excellent restaurants to enjoy in the winelands as well, especially in Franschhoek, or why not order a picnic lunch and relax in the grounds of one of the beautiful old wine estates (our favourite picnic lunches are at Vergelegen and Boschendal wine farms!).
Garden Route
Spend a few days exploring the beautiful “Garden Route” between Mossel Bay and Port Elizabeth, that starts about four hours drive from Cape Town and includes some of the Western Cape's most popular beach towns, Knysna and Plettenberg Bay.
Not only will the lush coastal vegetation offer scenic satisfaction but there are plenty of opportunities for adventure activities such as hiking and bungee jumping en route.
West Coast
Travel an hour or so up the West Coast from Camps Bay to appreciate the spectacular display of wildflowers along the rugged coastline in spring and stop for some bird-watching at the West Coast National Park around the Langebaan lagoon, where the warm, shallow waters make this a popular spot for swimming and water-sports.
About half an hour's drive beyond Langebaan, the Voorstrand restaurant is one of our favourite spots to enjoy simple, fresh seafood in an unforgettable location right on the remote, long sandy beach in the traditional West Coast fishing village of Paternoster.
Hermanus
Visit the quaint town of Hermanus between July and December for some of the finest shore-based whale watching in the world. (90 minutes drive from Camps Bay).
Boat-trips can also be arranged from Hermanus if you want to enjoy even closer views of the whales or if adrenalin is your thing why not experience cage-diving with Great White Sharks from Gansbaai harbour, about 30 minutes beyond Hermanus (prior booking essential).
