Cape Town Restaurants
Best restaurant choices
There are so many fantastic places to eat and drink in Cape Town, not too far from your convenient Cape Town villa rental in Camps Bay. We have included below a few of our current favourite places to eat outside Camps Bay (see our separate web page for Camps Bay restaurants). Our clients all receive a detailed guide on arrival with contact details for these and our other recommended Cape Town restaurants.
La Colombe
Constantia Uitsig Winefarm (30 minutes drive from Camps Bay) - Lunch in the shade by the courtyard at La Colombe has to be one of the best ways to spend a lazy summer afternoon in the Cape. The French Provencal style cuisine with local influence is hard to beat and the service generally second to none.
Ginja
Castle Street, City (10 minutes drive from Camps Bay) - fashionable but nicely laid-back city center restaurant with great value, classy fusion food, hugely popular since its 2002 opening and deservedly so.
Spaanschemat River Café
Constantia Uitsig Winefarm (30 minutes drive from Camps Bay) - for us, and many Capetonians, a great place to meet friends for a weekend lunch, with a fabulous food selection to meet any craving, from classy sandwiches to salads, from great burgers to fish and fillets. Ask for a courtyard table if it's sunny.
Savoy Cabbage
Heritage Square, City (10 minutes drive from Camps Bay) - the excellent service, unusual food combinations and stylish inner-city setting combine to make this the perfect venue for a relaxing evening less than 10 minutes drive from the razzamatazz of Camps Bay.
Willoughby & Co
V&A Waterfront, City (15 minutes drive from Camps Bay) - enjoy the best sushi in Cape Town at this Waterfront fish restaurant and fish market which is very popular with locals and visitors alike, otherwise there is always a good range of fresh local fish and other dishes.
Constantia Uitsig
Constantia Uitsig Winefarm (30 minutes drive from Camps Bay) - We shamelessly list all three restaurants at Constantia Uitsig winery as favourites. Slightly more formal than La Colombe, and more of an evening place than the River Café, this is undoubtedly one of the best places in Cape Town for fine Mediterranean cuisine.
Bukhara
Church/Burg Street, City (10 minutes drive from Camps Bay) - always lively, with an excellent range of authentic Indian dishes and a good local wine list.
And some other great places to know about
For ethnic South African cuisine:
Africa Café
Shortmarket Street, City - African feast of 16 dishes from Cape to Cairo; Saigon, Kloof Street, Gardens - really excellent Vietnamese cuisine with mix of other Asian influences.
Cape Malay
Cellars-Hohenhort hotel, Constantia - traditional local Cape Malay cuisine in fine hotel setting.
Wang Thai
Main Road, Green Point - popular chain of good value Thai restaurants.
For South African fine dining:
Aubergine
Barnet Street, Gardens - multi Award winning restaurant, snug and sophisticated
Blue Danube
New Church Street, Tamboerskloof - classical cuisine with Austrian influence
Buitenverwachting
Constantia - gentle Constantia setting meets Italian/French haute cuisine. The lunchtime picnics in the gardens here are great too.
Winelands fine dining:
Reubens
Franschhoek - our winelands favorite and one of the hot new restaurants of the past few years, Reubens has great food, great service and a relaxed style too.
Monneaux Restaurant
Franschhoek - a reliable mix of modern fusion and classic dishes.
Le Quartier Francais
Franschhoek - Innovative flavour combinations, top-notch service.
Haute Cabriere
Franschhoek - vault-like restaurant above the Cabriere Estate cellar with great wine and food matches.
Or pre-order and enjoy a picnic basket on the lawns at beautiful old wineries like Boschendal or Vergelegen which has a good lunch restaurant too and is one of THE top wineries of the moment.
