Cape Town's Golf Courses
Best Cape Town Golf Courses
Cape Town is an excellent choice for a golf holiday, what with the many excellent golf courses Cape Town has in the area, which welcome visitors.
Our Camps Bay villas and apartments work well for golf groups and we are able to cater for larger parties with villas sleeping up to 18 guests or otherwise by offering two or more properties close together in Camps Bay. Chauffeured mini-bus hire (with trailers for golf equipment) can be arranged to take the hassle out of driving to and from the courses.
Pre-booking of tee times is essential during the busy summer months and at weekends courses are often only available to members. Handicap certificates are rarely required but you should check when booking. Make sure you enjoy the South African tradition of having to stop at the “half-way” house for a drink and snack after 9 holes!
Here are some of our favourite Winelands and Cape Town golf courses:-
Arabella Golf Estate, near Hermanus. The best, the most beautiful and (if it's windy) the toughest golfing experience close to Cape Town, well worth the one and a half hour drive from Camps Bay, especially if you take the stunning coastal route via Gordon's Bay. The setting is superb between sea and mountains and the course always in great condition. Good spa too.
Stellenbosch Golf Club About 45 minutes from Camps Bay and just a few minutes from Stellenbosch and the wineries, this is a very high quality course (SA Open standard) with a relaxed, older feel. Extremely hot here in the midday summer sun so early tee-off times advised!
Rondebosch Golf Club – This is a very friendly club in great condition with some spectacular views of the mountains. One of the better options for higher handicappers despite some tricky shots over water. About 20 minutes drive from Camps Bay.
Clovelly Country Club Strikingly different to our other suggestions, with one of the friendliest welcomes for visitors, this is one of those courses you tend to enjoy however badly you play. Winding, tree-lined fairways in a pretty, narrow valley above False Bay, about 45 minutes' drive from Camps Bay.
Erinvale Golf Club Along with Arabella, this is the only other course we recommend that might just be a bit too tough for high handicappers, especially when the wind blows. About 45 minutes drive from Camps Bay, lunch afterwards at Vergelegen wine estate just opposite will always compensate for a shocking round of golf.
Westlake Golf Club Very friendly club and often easier to get a game than elsewhere, plus a beautiful setting at the foot of the mountains above Muizenberg and False Bay, about 40 minutes drive from Camps Bay.
Milnerton Golf Club With amazing views back over Table Bay to the mountain and city, this is the closest Cape Town offers to a traditional links course, just 30 minutes drive from Camps Bay. Fairly open layout but a nightmare when the wind is blowing.
And more on golf
Too many lost balls? We are lucky enough to have an excellent practice facility in Cape Town. The River Club is about 20 minutes drive from Camps Bay in Observatory, with a large driving range, group or individual lessons and a pleasant outdoor lunch bar/snack restaurant.
