Cape Town Climate
Cape Town has a Mediterranean climate.
November to March (Summer)
The most popular time to visit Cape Town, with very low rainfall, long days of sunshine (10 hours average per day) and day-time temperatures up around 25 degrees Celsius (about 77 degrees Fahrenheit). The heat is rarely oppressive though thanks to low humidity and a cooling southeasterly wind that can blow very strongly for short periods along parts of the Atlantic coast at this time of year.
April to May (Autumn)
Autumn is a lovely time to be in Cape Town. The days start to shorten but the air stays very pleasantly warm, with day-time temperatures still around twenty degrees Celsius (about 70 degrees Fahrenheit). Long spells of clear sunny days, interrupted by the odd few days of rain, are the norm.
June to August (Winter)
The winter brings plenty of rain to Cape Town, but this tends to come in short, sharp spells and unbroken periods of glorious sunny days with clear blue skies are still common. Day-time temperatures remain mild even at this time of year, averaging between 13 to 18 degrees Celsius (55 to 65 degrees Fahrenheit).
September to October (Spring)
Spring in Cape Town sees the winter rains disappear and the return of more settled weather and longer, warmer days. Day-time temperatures start to climb back up above twenty degrees Celsius (about 70 degrees Fahrenheit). And, of course, the Cape is arguably at its most beautiful in the Spring, with much of the native vegetation or "fynbos" in flower.
