Cape Town's Best Beaches

Camps Bay and beyond

Besides Camps Bay beach itself, there are many other popular and visitor-friendly beaches nearby. Here are some of our favourite Cape Town beaches to relax on -

Camps Bay beach

Backed by a long line of palm trees with about 20 popular beachfront bars and restaurants close by, Camps Bay's kilometre long, white sandy beach lies majestically at the foot of the Twelve Apostles and Lions Head mountains behind Table Mountain.

The beach is rarely too crowded but always alive with a cosmopolitan mix of visitors, from locals tanning and families building sand castles to the more active enjoying a friendly game of beach bats, volley ball or touch rugby.

Camps Bay's stunningly beautiful shoreline makes it a popular venue for all manner of events, from international beach volleyball championships to wedding ceremonies and modelling shoots, as it provides the perfect backdrop with magnificent, russet-streaked sunsets over the ocean.

If you are lucky you might well see dolphins, seals and even whales playing in the surf close by as you relax on the beach!

Glen beach

Situated just to one side of Camps Bay Beach, this small, secluded sandy beach is hidden from Camps Bay behind large rocks, thus entertaining fewer visitors and making it an ideal beach for some quiet relaxation, as well as being a popular surfing beach.

Clifton beach

Also walking distance from Camps Bay, the world-famous Clifton Beach is in fact a sequence of four unbelievably beautiful sandy beaches divided by a pattern of large boulders in between.

The most popular is the glistening white Clifton Fourth Beach, nestled in the curve of towering rocks and overlooked by multi million Rand beach houses perched on the steep lower slopes of Lions Head above. Famous for its beautiful people - Versace and Gucci labels are not uncommon on this beach - this is very much one of the places to see and be seen. It is also one of the most sheltered beaches to enjoy when the strong South Easterly wind blows!

Llandudno beach

A few kilometres beyond Camps Bay along the dramatic coast road, Llandudno beach nestles between huge boulders beneath the steep slopes of this small and exclusive residential suburb. Smaller than Camps Bay and and more laid-back than Clifton Fourth Beach, this is one of the best spots to relax on the golden sands and enjoy the perfect sunsets over the Atlantic Ocean.

Noordhoek beach

A longer drive from Camps Bay (about 40 minutes) but what a drive! Situated at the end of one of the world's most beautiful and dramatic coastal roads, Chapman's Peak Drive, this wild and often deserted beach stretches for 6 kilometres and so is great for long beach walks. Horse riding can also be arranged at the local stables.

Boulders beach

There are not many beaches in the world where you can swim with penguins but the small secluded Boulders beach offers that unusual treat, courtesy of the large local Cape Penguin colony, and warmer waters too, being on the False Bay side of Cape Town, about 50 minutes from Camps Bay.

We will be pleased to help you with directions to these and many other Cape Town beaches close to Camps Bay during your stay.
