Cape Attractions

Cape Town tourist attractions
Many wonderful Cape Town tourist attractions lie just a short distance from your luxury accommodation in Camps Bay. Too many in fact to mention here but those you will not want to miss include the following -
Table Mountain
For spectacular panoramic views, take the cable car that starts just five minutes drive from Camps Bay beach to the top of this majestic mountain dominating Cape Town. For the more adventurous, select an easy or challenging hiking trail and enjoy the natural beauty as you climb up yourself.
Robben Island
Take a boat trip out to this famous island, where former South African president Nelson Mandela and various other political prisoners were held. Enjoy a fascinating historical tour of the island and prison, now symbolic of liberation after suffering, as well as its unforgettable views over Table Bay back to Cape Town. Boats leave regularly from the V&A Waterfront just 10-15 minutes drive from Camps Bay.
Cape Point and Cape Peninsula National Park
See where the cold Atlantic Ocean meets the warm Indian Ocean from the dizzying cliffs of the most southwestern point in Africa, Cape Point. The half-day drive from Camps Bay out to Cape Point via Chapman's Peak Drive and the Cape Peninsula National Park has to be one of the most scenic drives not only in Cape Town but quite possibly the world!
There are also many other exciting places to stop off and visit on your way to Cape Point, including the colourful fishing village of Kalk Bay with its antique stores, craft shops and inviting cafes and restaurants, and the penguin colony at Boulders Beach near the old naval port of Simons Town.
The V&A Waterfront
Africa's most visited tourist attraction and hugely popular with locals too, the V&A Waterfront complex is just 10-15 minutes drive from Camps Bay and offers a huge selection of shops (over 400 - open until 9pm every day!), restaurants, cinemas, bars and many other points of interest, including the:
- Largest aquarium in Africa, the Two Oceans Aquarium.
- African craft market.
- Live, open-air concerts and performances.
- Many boat trips including to Robben Island and sunset cruises to Camps Bay.
- Busy working harbour with fishing boats, racing yachts and colony of Cape Fur seals to watch.
Kirstenbosch Botanical Garden
Stroll through these internationally renowned gardens on the eastern slopes of Table Mountain about 30 minutes drive from Camps Bay, loved for their indigenous plant life and natural beauty.
The Sunday evening concerts in summer are a Cape Town institution - bring your picnic and some wine and relax on the lawns with the mountain in the background listening to anything from pop to classical. If you are here at Christmas then book early for the concert of 'Carols by Candlelight', hugely popular with locals and something not to be missed!
